This month I was invited to the Z-arts centre along with my family to see Twinkle Twinkle a theatre show which is aimed at children aged 1- 4 years, the show is just 25 minutes long which is the perfect length for the age range the show is aimed at. There was no dedicated seating at the show you could either sit in front of the performers on cushions or could sit behind on one of the rows of chairs, our children decided they wanted to sit on the chairs bust most children sat on the cushions on the floor. The show is by the Touched Theatre company with a story written by Beccy Smith and is directed by Anna Newell and tells the story of a dog called Marty.
In the show we see Marty's dad try to get him to take his bath which Marty is not happy about, after bath time it's time for Marty to head to bed but he does not like being left alone in the dark so causes a bit of mischief to try and get his dad to come back in his room. whilst his dad is out of the room Marty finds a ball of light which he plays with, and we get a little light show. During the show there is some audience participation as they handed out little bells to the children and encouraged them to join in with a rendition of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" this was a big hit with the children.
The show is performed by Darren East & Fagner Gastaldon who do an amazing job at keeping their young audience engaged throughout the show. At the end of the show the children were invited to come up and meet Marty and have a picture with him, my children absolutely loved this and as each show only has a small audience it was easy to do, and it didn't take long for each child to get to meet the gorgeous puppy puppet. Marty the puppet is beautiful, and he was created by Annie Brooks, all the children fell in love with him immediately and my daughter was just fascinated by him and wanted to take him home.
The set is simple but effective, it depicts Marty's bedroom with a bed a triangular shaped shelving unit which has a bathtub underneath and there is a lighting rig which has light bulbs hanging from it with a star shaped light in the middle. The show is set to a beautiful score by Foz Foster which creates a lovely and relaxed atmosphere as soon as you step foot in the auditorium.
Twinkle Twinkle is such a magical, delightful and heartwarming show which kept its young audience engaged throughout. It is a beautiful introduction to theatre for young children and I highly recommend it, my children loved it.
