Fans of The Kinks, get ready to rock once again! The multi-Olivier Award-winning musical Sunny Afternoon is set to return for a highly anticipated 2025/2026 UK tour, kicking off at Manchester Palace Theatre on 10 October 2025. Following its hugely successful West End run and a sell-out tour in 2016/17, this exhilarating celebration of one of Britain’s most iconic bands is back to captivate audiences across the country.

A Musical Celebration of The Kinks

Sunny Afternoon takes audiences on a journey through the meteoric rise of The Kinks, showcasing their euphoric highs and agonising lows with a soundtrack packed full of timeless hits. Featuring classics like You Really Got Me, Lola, and All Day and All of the Night, the show captures the raw energy, passion, and revolutionary spirit of the band that changed the face of British music.

Set against the backdrop of Britain in the rebellious 1960s, Sunny Afternoon is more than just a jukebox musical – it’s an electrifying and deeply moving portrayal of the band’s legacy. With music and lyrics by Ray Davies, a book by Joe Penhall, and direction by Edward Hall, the show has already cemented its place as a modern musical classic.

An Award-Winning Triumph

Having previously won four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical and Outstanding Achievement in Music for Ray Davies, Sunny Afternoon has received widespread acclaim for its powerful storytelling, phenomenal soundtrack, and dynamic performances. Sonia Friedman, the show’s producer, expressed her excitement at bringing the musical back, saying:

“Ray Davies’ music and lyrics capture the poetry and poignancy of everyday life with honesty and wit, and The Kinks’ music, attitude and vibe shaped a generation. Their astonishing legacy continues to resonate, making Sunny Afternoon as exhilarating and relevant today as ever.”

Ray Davies himself shared his enthusiasm for the return of the show, stating, “In these times of political uncertainties, it is a relief to know that Sunny Afternoon is on the horizon to lift our spirits.”

Where to See It

The tour will launch at Manchester Palace Theatre from 10–18 October 2025, with more dates and casting announcements to follow. Whether you’re reliving the magic or discovering Sunny Afternoon for the first time, this is a must-see musical that will have you dancing in your seat and singing along to every hit.
