🧒 From Page to Stage: A Bestselling Book Brought to Life
The Children's Theatre Partnership and Rose Theatre have announced the return of The Boy at the Back of the Class, adapted from the beloved novel by Onjali Q. Raúf and brought to the stage by playwright Nick Ahad. After touching hearts across the UK in 2024, this award-winning adaptation returns for a 2026 tour, beginning with a two-week run at the Rose Theatre from 6–22 February.
With its powerful themes of friendship, empathy and hope, this story is more timely than ever.
🎭 A Story That Stays With You – The Boy at the Back of the Class
There used to be an empty chair at the back of the class… until Ahmet arrived. He’s nine years old and doesn’t talk, doesn’t smile, and doesn’t even like lemon sherbets! But when his classmates discover that he’s a refugee who has fled a war-torn country, they hatch a bold and brilliant plan to reunite Ahmet with his family.
Told through the eyes of a young narrator with heart, humour and imagination, The Boy at the Back of the Class shows how even the smallest voices can make the biggest difference.
Expect laughter, surprises and maybe even a few tears in this uplifting tale that celebrates compassion in a world that doesn’t always make sense.
🎬 Behind the Scenes: The Creative Dream Team
The production is once again directed by The Stage Debut Award-winner Monique Touko, with a brilliant creative team bringing the world of the classroom and beyond to vibrant life. Returning for the 2026 tour are:
Lily Arnold – Set & Costume Designer
Ryan Day – Lighting Designer
Giles Thomas – Composer & Sound Designer
Kloé Dean – Movement Director
Sophie Parrott CDG – Casting Director
The cast will be announced soon – we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled!
