A Christmas Carol At The Lowry 2026
This Christmas, something truly special is coming to Salford Quays, as A Christmas Carol arrives at The Lowry for 2026.
The Old Vic’s critically acclaimed production of A Christmas Carol will play at The Lowry from 11 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, marking a huge moment for theatre in the North West.
After delighting audiences for nearly a decade in London — and around the world — this beloved festive production is finally heading outside the capital, giving local audiences the chance to experience the magic closer to home.
🎄 A Landmark Production Comes to The Lowry
Directed by Matthew Warchus and adapted by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), this version of A Christmas Carol has become a festive favourite since its world premiere in 2017.
Having already played to almost one million people across London, the US and Australia — as well as being streamed globally during OLD VIC: IN CAMERA in 2020 — this marks the first time the production will be staged in another UK city.
And what better venue than The Lowry’s Lyric Theatre to host such a magical and much-loved show?

✨ What Is A Christmas Carol About?
On a cold Christmas Eve, the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by four ghosts.
As he journeys through his past, present and future, Scrooge is forced to confront the life he has built — one shaped by loneliness, fear and selfishness.
But with time running out, can he change his ways before it’s too late?
This production promises a heartwarming, emotional and visually stunning retelling of the classic story, filled with music, festive cheer and unforgettable theatrical moments.
🎶 A Festive Theatre Experience Like No Other
This isn’t just a traditional retelling — The Old Vic’s A Christmas Carol is known for its immersive and joyful atmosphere, famously filling the auditorium with mince pies, music and festive spirit.
With a creative team including:
Set & Costume: Rob Howell
Composer & Arranger: Christopher Nightingale
Lighting: Hugh Vanstone
Sound: Simon Baker
Movement: Lizzi Gee
…this is set to be a big-hearted, high-quality production that truly captures the magic of Christmas.
