Two people sit on a beach under a palm tree, one holding a ukulele. Text: "50 First Dates: The Musical." Warm, tropical scenery.

Get ready to fall in love—again and again and again! The much-loved 2004 romantic comedy 50 First Dates, starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, is getting a brand-new stage adaptation. 50 First Dates: The Musical will make its world premiere at The Other Palace in London from 14 September to 16 November 2025.

🎭 From Screen to Stage

Written by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen (The Other Josh Cohen), the musical reimagines the hilarious and heartfelt rom-com for the stage. It tells the story of Henry Roth, a womanising marine veterinarian who falls head over heels for Lucy Whitmore, an art teacher with short-term memory loss following a car accident. Every day, she forgets ever meeting him, and every day, he has to win her heart all over again.

This unmissable romantic comedy is directed and choreographed by Broadway powerhouse Casey Nicholaw (Mean Girls, The Book of Mormon, Hercules), who calls 50 First Dates one of his all-time favourites—and even his go-to airplane movie! After watching it around 50 times mid-flight, he knew it had the makings of a musical: “I’m so excited to direct and choreograph the world premiere of this new, funny and romantic show… I can’t wait for London audiences to fall in love—again and again and again—when we open this September.”

✨ Meet the Cast and Creative Team

In a casting reunion that fans of Mean Girls will love, Georgina Castle (Regina George in the UK production) stars as Lucy, who wakes up each day thinking it’s Sunday 13 October. Opposite her, Josh St Clair (Ghost, Kinky Boots) plays the charming but hopeless Henry.

The stellar creative team includes:

  • Fly Davis – Set and Costume Designer

  • Aideen Malone – Lighting Designer

  • George Reeve – Video Designer

  • Adam Fisher – Sound Designer

  • Cynthia De La Rosa – Hair and Makeup

  • Matthew Jackson – Orchestrations and Arrangements

  • Richard Beadle – Musical Supervisor and Director

  • Natalie Gallacher for Natalie Gallacher and Pippa Ailion Casting – Casting Director

Produced by ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live, and Gavin Kalin Productions, this is shaping up to be one of the hottest tickets of the autumn.

💬 The Rom-Com We All Remember

Described as “one of the most beloved romantic comedies of all time,” the original 50 First Dates holds a special place in the hearts of millennials and rom-com lovers alike. Its blend of humour, heart, and Hawaiian sunshine made it an instant classic. The musical looks set to bottle that same magic, with a fresh theatrical twist—and some infectious original songs thrown in for good measure.

And while the original had its quirks (remember Alexa and the penguins?), the stage version offers the perfect opportunity to reimagine those moments for a new audience. According to early buzz, this could be a Broadway tryout in disguise—so catch it in London while you can.
