Legally Blonde The Musical UK Tour at Liverpool Empire – A Pink-Powered, Feel-Good Musical Triumph
Legally Blonde The Musical has remained a beloved stage adaptation ever since it first burst onto Broadway in 2007, before becoming a West End sensation and earning multiple Olivier Awards. Based on the iconic 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon, this latest UK and Ireland tour brings Elle Woods’ empowering story back to the stage in spectacular style.
As a long-time fan of Legally Blonde — having first seen the original West End production starring Sheridan Smith and Richard Fleeshman in 2010, alongside its previous UK tours — this latest revival arrived at Liverpool Empire with particularly high expectations.
Directed by Nikolai Foster, this vibrant revival embraces everything audiences adore about Legally Blonde — from its infectious humour and uplifting message to its iconic musical numbers and larger-than-life theatricality. At Liverpool Empire, this production proves exactly why Elle Woods’ journey continues to resonate so strongly with audiences of all ages.

Legally Blonde follows sorority president Elle Woods as she embarks on an unexpected journey from Malibu glamour to Harvard Law School after being dumped by her boyfriend Warner Huntington III. What begins as an attempt to win him back soon transforms into a powerful story of self-discovery, resilience, and breaking down stereotypes.
The musical beautifully balances outrageous comedy with heartfelt emotional growth, celebrating Elle’s transformation into a confident, intelligent young woman who learns that success comes from staying true to herself rather than changing for others. It’s an empowering, uplifting story that still feels as relevant and inspiring as ever.

Visually, this production is an absolute feast.
Colin Richmond’s clever set design, featuring sweeping LED panels and seamless scene transitions, keeps the action moving at an exhilarating pace while perfectly capturing both the glossy Malibu aesthetic and the intimidating world of Harvard. Ben Cracknell’s dynamic lighting design floods the stage with dazzling colour, amplifying the show’s signature high-energy style.
Tom Rogers’ costume design is equally spectacular, delivering a wardrobe bursting with pinks, pastels, and bold fashion choices that perfectly reflect Elle’s world while evolving alongside her journey.
Leah Hill’s choreography is simply phenomenal. Every routine is delivered with remarkable precision, energy, and infectious enthusiasm. From the explosive “Omigod You Guys” to the unforgettable “Whipped Into Shape” and iconic “Bend and Snap,” the choreography is consistently thrilling and showcases the extraordinary stamina of the cast.
Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin’s score remains irresistibly catchy, blending humour, heart, and high-energy spectacle.
Musical highlights such as “So Much Better,” “Whipped Into Shape,” “Bend and Snap,” and “Legally Blonde” all land brilliantly, with the live band under musical direction from Cerys McKenna providing vibrant support throughout.
The score perfectly complements the fast-paced storytelling, delivering both laugh-out-loud comedy and genuine emotional depth.

This Liverpool Empire performance featured Hannah Lowther as Elle Woods, and she was nothing short of sensational.
Lowther delivers a star-making performance, capturing Elle’s bubbly charm, emotional vulnerability, determination, and fierce intelligence with remarkable skill. Her vocals are consistently powerful, her comedic timing is excellent, and her stage presence is magnetic throughout.
Karen Mavundukure is an undeniable standout as Paulette, delivering huge laughs, powerhouse vocals, and immense heart. Her performance is scene-stealing in the very best way, making Paulette both hilarious and deeply lovable.
George Crawford brings warmth and sincerity to Emmett, while Adam Cooper commands attention as the imposing Callahan. Jamie Chatterton’s Warner provides exactly the right level of charm and arrogance, while Annabelle Terry’s Vivienne offers strong character development.
The Delta Nu trio — Lauren Hampton (Margot), Rosanna Harris (Serena), and Remi Ferdinand (Pilar) — provide sparkling energy, humour, and vocal strength throughout.
Special mention must also go to Sprout as Bruiser Woods, whose adorable appearances delighted the Liverpool audience every time.

Legally Blonde The Musical at Liverpool Empire is a spectacular, uplifting triumph that delivers everything audiences could want from this beloved show.
Packed with stunning visuals, exhilarating choreography, powerhouse performances, and a wonderfully empowering message, this latest UK tour production is bright, bold, and bursting with joy.
Hannah Lowther leads the company with star quality, supported by an exceptional cast who bring endless energy and heart to the stage.
