💷 FROM BURNLEY TO THE BIG STAGE: BANK OF DAVE THE MUSICAL
From a Burnley building site to spotlight dreams, the remarkable story of Dave Fishwick is about to take centre stage in a brand-new British musical. Producers ROYO, Future Artists Entertainment, Curve and The Lowry have announced the world premiere of Bank of Dave The Musical, opening in May 2026.
The show will first play at The Lowry, Salford (2–16 May 2026) before transferring to Curve, Leicester (20–30 May 2026). Tickets for The Lowry go on sale 24 September 2025, with Curve tickets following on 7 October 2025.
🎶 The True-ish Tale
Based on the Sunday Times best-selling book, the BAFTA Award-winning documentary and the global hit Netflix film, Bank of Dave The Musical tells the “true-ish” story of Dave Fishwick.
A self-made millionaire from Burnley, Dave set out to help local people and small businesses when traditional banks turned them away. His bold idea? To open his own bank – putting the profits straight back into the community.
With the support of Hugh, a posh but principled lawyer, Dave takes on the “fat cats” of the City of London. This feel-good new show is bursting with northern grit, laugh-out-loud humour, and what Dave himself calls “the best songs in any musical ever.”
As Fishwick puts it:“The humour of The Full Monty with the spirit of Billy Elliot – but with a few more ba*tard bankers, and an unlikely hero from Burnley!”*
🌟 Meet the Dream Team
The production boasts an impressive creative line-up:
Book & Lyrics – Rob Madge (My Son’s a Queer (But What Can You Do?), Cabaret)
Music & Lyrics – Pippa Cleary (The Great British Bake Off Musical, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾)
Director – Nikolai Foster (Curve Artistic Director, Kinky Boots, A Chorus Line)
Based on a screenplay by Piers Ashworth (Bank of Dave film)
Produced by ROYO, Future Artists Entertainment, Curve and The Lowry, with Katie Lander consulting for Finestripe Productions.
🗣️ What They’re Saying
Dave Fishwick“This all feels very surreal! I left school at 16, absolutely useless with no qualifications whatsoever. I started work on a building site as a builder’s labourer, and went from builder’s labourer to building the first new high street bank for 150 years in Britain. Then Hollywood turned up, not just once but twice! And now the magical world of theatre has arrived; from Burnley to Broadway – via the magnificent Lowry in Salford and Curve in Leicester first of course!”
Rob Madge“A couple of years ago, Pippa Cleary and I were asked to turn Dave Fishwick’s inspirational story into a musical (I know! You weren’t expecting that, were you?). Safe to say, it has been nothing short of a joy. I am deeply proud to be telling this special tale of community, hope and perseverance.”
Pippa Cleary“Writing these songs has been such a joy, capturing the humour, grit and heart that makes this tale so uniquely British. We’ve had an absolute blast bringing Dave’s fight for fairness to life, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience it for themselves next year.”
