🌈 Streamers, Songs & Smiles: CBeebies House Party Live! at The Lowry

🎬 Setting the Scene

On Thursday 28th August, we headed to The Lowry with our two children, Alice (7) and Leo (6), for a theatre trip like no other – the CBeebies House Party Live! From the moment we stepped inside the auditorium, the excitement was buzzing. The big screen was already keeping little ones entertained with CBeebies clips and songs, including Evie and Dodge singing This is the Way. The atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and brimming with anticipation – we knew we were in for a treat!

🎁 The Big Party Begins

The party kicked off in true CBeebies style with presenters Evie and Rhys, joined by BSL interpreter Emma, making sure every single family could enjoy the fun together. Right from the start, the children were joining in – counting down from three to help open a giant present, before colourful streamers shot across the auditorium. Alice and Leo were thrilled, catching as many as they could and even saving some to take home.

🎨 Fun with Friends

The first guest to arrive was Mister Maker, who had the children painting with imaginary brushes and filling the big screen with splodges of colour. Next up was the one and only Justin Fletcher, who brought out a wibbly-wobbly giant jelly – cue the whole theatre jiggling along to Jelly on a Plate while enormous soft balls bounced through the crowd. Leo’s face lit up as he pushed the giant balloons around with the children nearby.

Then came Duggee, and Alice could hardly contain her excitement. Together with Justin at the decks, the whole theatre joined in the Stick Song, turning the auditorium into a mini-rave full of laughter and dancing. Just as the energy was at its peak, it was time to calm down with a CBeebies Bedtime Story, read beautifully by Justin, featuring Duggee and the Squirrels planning a surprise party. The show ended with a huge singalong of the Hokey Cokey – the perfect finale to a brilliant family celebration.

At just 60 minutes with no interval, the pacing was spot on – high-energy, interactive, and engaging from beginning to end.

🌈 Bright, Bold & Brilliant

The set was like stepping straight into a CBeebies playhouse – bold, bright, and bursting with colour. Children immediately recognised familiar shapes and characters, including Dodge’s Den, rainbow doors, and oversized props. A giant screen at the centre cleverly tied the show together with live-action clips, interactive games, and animations, making it feel like part TV show, part theatre spectacle.

Lighting was just as playful, with bold rainbow colours and dazzling effects filling the space with energy. The costumes kept everything cheerful and friendly, making the presenters feel like old friends, while the music was packed with CBeebies favourites – from Jelly on a Plate to The Stick Song – designed to get children singing, dancing, and joining in. Streamers, bubbles, and giant bouncing balls added that final splash of magic, transforming the theatre into one big party.

🌟 Stars of the Show

The cast were a joy from start to finish. Evie and Rhys were natural, friendly, and brilliant at making children feel included, often chatting with the audience and encouraging shy little ones (like Alice) to join in with confidence. Emma, the BSL interpreter, deserves special mention – seamlessly part of the fun, making the show accessible to all.

Guest stars were greeted with squeals of delight, from the much-loved Mister Maker to the ever-popular Justin Fletcher, whose warm presence and boundless energy had children and parents equally thrilled. And of course, Duggee’s arrival was the cherry on top, with the audience’s excitement reaching fever pitch during the Stick Song.

With singing, dancing, bubbles, balloons, and beloved CBeebies favourites, it truly felt like a celebration the whole family was invited to. Alice’s highlight was the giant jelly balls and seeing Duggee, while Leo loved the colourful streamers and the calm magic of the Bedtime Story.
