The Sea Witch is Back—and She's More Fabulous Than Ever

Get ready, Salford! Everyone’s favourite villainess is swimming her way back to The Lowry for the Christmas season—and she’s bringing sass, sequins, and a tidal wave of laughs with her. After two sell-out runs, the smash-hit musical parody Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch returns for a brand-new production from Friday 5 December 2025 to Sunday 11 January 2026.

A Queer Icon, A Wickedly Funny Tale

Before Cruella strutted the runway and Maleficent cast her shadow, there was Ursula. Bold, brilliant and brimming with bite, this purple powerhouse has long reigned as the true queen of Disney villains. But now it’s her time to tell the real story—tentacles, trash talk and all.

Unfortunate flips the script on the classic mermaid tale with a gloriously filthy sense of humour and a heartfelt message about body confidence, queerness, and owning your voice. Expect a raunchy deep dive into Ursula’s origin story, complete with a pop-powered soundtrack, outrageous comedy, and eco-friendly glitter galore. If you’ve ever wondered what really went down under the sea, now’s your chance to find out.

A Show with Serious Sea Legs

Since its splashy debut at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019, Unfortunate has built a cult following. From the Birmingham Hippodrome to London’s Southwark Playhouse Elephant, every stage she graces becomes Ursula’s domain. Most recently, the production toured the UK in 2024 and is even heading to Sweden in 2025 with a brand-new Swedish-language version.

About the Team Behind the Tentacles

With book and lyrics by Robyn Grant and Daniel Foxx, and music by award-winning composer Tim Gilvin, Unfortunate is produced by Wildpark Entertainment. Casting and the 2025/26 creative team are still under wraps, but one thing’s for sure: this is going to be a killer Christmas comeback.

Don’t Miss the Boat

If previous runs are anything to go by, tickets will vanish faster than a contract with fine print. So gather your mer-friends, brush up on your sea witch cackles, and get ready to dive into one of the most subversively fabulous shows of the season.
