Kimberly Akimbo Hampstead Theatre: European Premiere Announced for Autumn 2026

The award-winning Broadway musical Kimberly Akimbo is officially heading to London, with Hampstead Theatre confirming that the show will receive its European premiere in autumn 2026. After taking the United States by storm and winning five Tony Awards in 2023, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, the arrival of Kimberly Akimbo at Hampstead Theatre is one of the biggest musical theatre announcements of the year.

The production will run from Friday 28 August to Saturday 7 November 2026, with press night on Wednesday 9 September at 7pm. This exciting new London staging will be directed by Michael Longhurst, whose previous work at Hampstead Theatre includes Caroline, or Change, Between Riverside and Crazy and Gloria. Longhurst is widely celebrated for his emotionally intelligent, visually inventive productions, making him a perfect fit for this musical.

What Is Kimberly Akimbo About?

Kimberly Akimbo follows the story of Kimberly Levaco, a bright, funny and big-hearted teenager approaching her 16th birthday. However, Kimberly appears much older than her age due to a rare genetic condition that causes her body to age at an accelerated rate. While juggling family chaos, school pressures and her unusual medical reality, Kimberly begins to experience young love when she meets Seth, a kind and quirky teen from her local ice rink.

The musical blends sharp humour with deep emotional resonance, exploring themes of identity, time, love and living life fully—no matter how much of it you may have.

A Tony Award-Winning Creative Team

The show reunites playwright and lyricist David Lindsay-Abaire with composer Jeanine Tesori, one of the most respected teams in modern musical theatre. Tesori’s credits include Fun Home, Caroline, or Change and Shrek the Musical, while Lindsay-Abaire is known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning play Rabbit Hole.

Together, their work on Kimberly Akimbo has been praised as funny, fearless and profoundly moving.
